As a creator, I put so much time, energy, and creativity into my content. From planning and filming to editing, every step is a labor of love. The goal is always to create something I’m proud of and that my audience can trust.

But here’s the truth:

	•	A free product doesn’t compensate for the effort I put into creating content or the equipment I use.
	•	It won’t make up for the exhaustion of spending hours trying to capture the perfect shot.
	•	And it definitely won’t pay my bills, recover my health, or undo the damage if the product doesn’t work for me.

The imbalance is real, especially when creators overextend themselves to meet a brand’s expectations. I truly believe that buying and showcasing products you already love is a much better way to build your portfolio. It gives you control, keeps your content authentic, and frees you from unrealistic demands. Brands notice consistent effort and quality content—it’s not about saying yes to every free offer.

Why am I saying this? Because I’ve seen and heard stories of creators being ghosted, receiving rude feedback, or being treated poorly by brands. That kind of behavior shows a lack of respect for creators as professionals. Gifted collaborations often feel exploitative, and it’s not okay.

Personally, I haven’t had the opportunity to work with brands yet. I’ve turned down gifted collabs because I know my worth. Sure, I fill out forms, but I don’t always get accepted. Instead, I focus on creating content with products I already use and love. I trust that the right brand, one that values my time and effort, will come along eventually.

It’s not easy to say no to gifted collabs when you’re starting out and want recognition. But setting boundaries and standing up for fair treatment sends a message to brands: creators deserve better.

Building a portfolio is important, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of your health or self-worth. Instead of jumping on every gifted collab, try creating content that speaks to your unique voice. Let brands notice your authenticity.

To brands: Respect the time, energy, and creativity that creators put into their work. If you want polished, professional content, fair compensation should be a given.
To creators: Don’t be afraid to say no. Your health, energy, and creativity are worth far more than a free product.

Now, about Picky—I initially joined because I thought it was all about free products. But I quickly realized there’s more to it. When you win a giveaway, you’re given 3–4 weeks to test the product and share an honest review. That’s enough time to see real results.

Hi everyone! I recently sent a pitch to Manyo Global, a Korean skincare brand, and they actually responded! Unfortunately, they don’t ship to Nigeria, so I wasn’t able to move forward. However, they do ship to several other countries, so if you’re in one of those listed, this could be a great opportunity for you!

Which skincare product have you tried that everyone raves about, but it just didn’t work for you? And which one surprised you and became your holy grail?

For me, it’s the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Cleanser. Everyone swears by it, but whenever I use it, my skin reacts, and it’s not like I have sensitive skin. I’m not sure what’s causing it, but it’s definitely not a match for me. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

On the flip side, my holy grail has to be the Mediheal Blemish Pads—These pads work wonders. I use them every single day, and my skin has never looked clearer. It’s my ride-or-die, and I can’t recommend them enough.

Why Am I Not Getting Brand Deals? Help a Girl Out!

The product works really well for me…my skin has improved so much! But I do wish the pads were a bit larger; it would make application even easier. Other than that, no complaints!


I have an oily skin and I started using the Mediheal Blemish Pad in combination with the Vitamide Pads from Mediheal since October. (First video shot late September 2024 with visible skin troubles)

Over the past three months (October, November, and December), I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin. My skin feels amazing, and I now have a happy, healthy glow! The hyperpigmentation I used to struggle with has visibly reduced, and my overall skin texture has improved. This product is my holy grail! It’s amazing for oily skin, though I haven’t reached my targeted skin result yet, but I’m confident that with consistency, I’ll get there.

The Centellian 24 Madeca Cream has a rich, balm-like texture that feels luxurious on the skin but absorbs surprisingly well without leaving a greasy finish. It has a very subtle scent, and it fades quickly. 
I started using this cream during a time when my skin barrier felt tight and flaky. Within just a few days, I noticed my skin felt soothed, and visibly less irritated. If you’re looking for a barrier-repair cream that delivers fast results without clogging pores or causing breakouts, this is a gem. I’d highly recommend it

Week 2 of using the SAM’U pH Sensitive Cream Mist, and I’m honestly impressed! The first thing I noticed was the lightweight, milky texture… it’s not your typical face mist that just disappears. This one actually leaves a layer of hydration, making my skin feel soft and nourished.

It contains Centella Asiatica Extract and Ceramide NP, which help soothe irritation, strengthen the skin barrier, and lock in moisture. Perfect for when my skin feels dry or sensitive! The sprayer is super fine and even, so I never have to worry about big droplets messing up my makeup (yes, your makeup is safe!). But my favorite way to use it? Right after cleansing for an instant moisture boost.

Oh, and did I mention it smells really nice too? Definitely a new favorite in my routine!

I’ve got nothing bad to say about this product, but if you do not like textures that are very light, you may not like this.

This moisturizer is skincare perfection for those seeking hydration and a little peace for their skin. It’s lightweight, fast-absorbing, gentle, effective, and delivers exactly what it promises. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this one! 

As refreshing as it feels, this is definitely more suited for oily or combo skin.

I didn’t realize how much my skin craved lightweight hydration until I tried the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Poremizing Light Gel Cream. The texture is Insanely refreshing! it literally melts into the skin without leaving any stickiness. It’s that perfect in-between of a gel and a cream, so it hydrates deeply.

If you’re dealing with oily or combo skin, or just want something that hydrates without clogging, this is a game changer. Honestly, it’s now one of those products I don’t want to be without.
