Concealer and corrector reccomendations for my skintone?

Having results is a bonus to me. And I realise that usually only comes when we are consistent and given how my work life is, it’s very hard to be consistent?

And I get. We spend all our hard earned cash on these products to see results. But sometimes, it doesn’t always work out the way we want and I think that’s okay. I’m tired of being upset about it. We’re all different and it takes time to get there, but also, having clear skin isn’t everything.

(But it sure does help, HAH, reminiscing younger me with clear skin, I doget treated a lot differently, anyone else? 😂 Anyway. . .)

I’m not less beautiful or valid, anyway, as a human and skincare lover, with all these “imperfections” or flaws on my skin. I don’t think anyone need to have clear skin to enjoy skincare.

I love skincare my own way. And I wanna be able to share my thoughts about products without being judged. 

What’s important to me now is having healthy skin, despite the “flaws” and “imperfections”, I only want comfortable and hydrated skin on the very base of it. Which is still a lot to ask but simpler than stressing over why my well spent skincare isn’t giving me “glass skin” or the skin I’ve been taught to need in life.

I value the experiences I get from skincare, especially after a long day. Like how a product feels on the skin upon application. The finish and the scent (Given that it isn’t artificially fragranced).

Also maybe clear skin isn’t meant for everyone and that’s okay? Achievable but it shouldn’t be everything?

But also. . .The world is the way it is and we’re constantly being sold to by companies, using our insecurities and I hope people see that truth.

Contradicting? Perhaps. But I’ve always been interested in skincare ever since my mom’s Oil of Olay and Pond’s Cold Cream era. Honorable mention : St. Ice’s Apricot Scrub Era 🙈

Oh, oh! And Clean anc Clear Trio Era! Which has gotta be every Malaysian teenager’s first set of cleanser, toner and moisturiser back then!

So yeah, my need for skincare in my life is ingrained in my soul and there is no turning back 😅🥲🥹

I miss how skincare was back then. Skincare felt fun and simple then. I did it because it felt good for myself. I did it because it made me feel like I was a part of something, with my mom, sister and a bestie.

Despite the results which to be fair didn’t matter, cause I had pretty good skin then. Fast forward that was all gone, but hey, that’s life and part of the process. And somewhere in between, the whitewashing “Fair and Lovely” era happened, convincing Asians that lighter skin is the only beautiful that exists. Ugh. Another topic, another day?

Right. So I’m here, tired of it all and writing this all down and realising I don’t want how my skin looks affect too much about how I feel. To some people it may be harder.

I’m here for the feels. The feeling of accomplishing something for myself, such as taking a few moments in the morning and before bed to take care of me and myself. Being kind to myself, internally and externally. With my thoughts, as I look into the mirror, working my favourite products into my skin, gently. 

That’s what I decided what skincare would do for me this time around. The good and the good.

Not get more insecurities.

Everything else is a bonus. And if eventually I happen to fit in the ideal skin spectrum. I’m not ever going to forget the truth behind this industry and to be honest, every industry.

But yeah, since it’s too late for me. Cause my love for skincare is keeping me alive right now. OMG. It’s literally my only escape day in and day out. Like if there’s one thing I look forward as I wake up and as I end my day, is my skincare routine. Or a nice weekend pampering session, just me, wearing a sheet mask in my art studio.

Anyway, massive thanks to Aēsop for letting me work with them. A brand I’m dying to be able to afford using again. I would think I think this way if it weren’t for their branding an concept. I remember learning their ways of selling their products were as genuine as a company can be.

They were really about the experience and not being the person with the clearest skin in the room. Literally I had a colleague then that had acne prone skin and the company had no trouble letting her work there cause that’s not what the brand stands for.

I LOVE THEIR PRODUCTS AND THEY SMELLS SO GOOD TOO. Also did you know that Aēsop does not have a brand ambassador? Yep.

Anyway, so random. But I swear it had to be mentioned.

Watermelon Friendly Brands

I guess it pills up when I layer my oils over it. 

But it’s a different case when I mix this moisturiser with my oils.

 So we good.

I’m all about minimal ingredients and simple products. 

This is one of my fave of that category. 

It does what it’s supposed to do (moisturise and soothe) and I have the security of mixing it with my favourite oils or boosters without the fear of “over nourishing” the combo. 

If you’re like me and you focus active ingredients in serums and boosters. This a great simple moisturiser to complete your routine.

EWG approved and Vegan. Need I say more.

It’s not too bad of a thing, but I guess it’s worth mentioning.

Off the bat, I do wish this serum is fragrance free. 

The formula is pretty drying on my skin (The same goes to some friends and family I let try this serum), but I make my way around it by adding a hydrating essence into my routine.

Massage the serum first and than pat on my preferred hydrating essence (My current is the on by TATAGALTIER). Sometimes I sandwich this serum with my essense so it goes like : 

Essence ~ Serum ~ Essence

And then a face oil and/or moisturiser. And all is well.

It’s only drying when I use it alone with an insufficient moisturiser and/or without the essence. 

My favourite moisturiser pairing of this serum is with the Aiken Prebiotic Moisturiser (+ a few drops of facial oil when needed, usually when I turn on the A/C) or Physiogel Calming Relief Anti-Redness Day Cream.

But yeah, on it’s own, after cleansing and or toning, the serum itself, a poor moisturiser and SPF, it is pretty drying. 

It’s really about better pairing.

I got this cause I swear I saw Johnny from NCT/NCT 127 uses it in his relay cam ha ha ha

• I appreciate that it comes in a pump bottle. Hygenic (Not easily contaminated) and convenience is always a plus for a girl on the go.

I can imagine this serum be loved by those with oily skin since the texture is REALLY light. In my experience of trying plenty of serums, this is definitely the lightest in texture. 

I enjoy the texture very much because it’s easy for me to layer my skincare.

• Absorbs like magic, feels like nothing
• Absolutely no stickiness and tackiness
• Smells “natural”

Results wise, I do see some improvements in fading of my acne scars and overall brightness when I’m consistent, but it does take a while.

Also, I did not break out when I started using this, as some vitamin C serum does. I broke out less in general but maybe that’s due to the how drying the formulation is, which I don’t think is such a bad thing. Let me explain in the “BAD” section below 👇🏼

Nothing bad to say about this product. I hould have kept this as a part of my routine since I used this in the past 🫣

Please not that this is the NATURAL VERSION of the famous Bio-Oil Skincare Oil. Consists of mostly plant based oils is naturally fragranced from what I understand.

Bought and immediately used. Loved it in the past. Decent facial oil. I alway love to end my routine with an oil to seal everything in.

Definitely leveled up my moisturising game with thus oil in my routine

So far I’m loving :

- The occlusivity, moisturing power
- The variations of sizes that it comes with. 3 sizes.
- That it’s multi purpose. Hair, face and body.
- Product amount/content VS. Price is reasonable

Thoughts in general :

If you’re not an oil person, this would be a good palce to start do to its accessibility (Guardian or other pharmacies and personal care store) and affordability.

I’d suggest using this product as a face massage oil too especially cause massages tend to need a lot amount if greasing and product and this product is quit affordable considering the amount you get, even in the small bottle.

RM 49.90 for 60 ML
RM 79.90 for 125 ML
RM 99.90 for 200 ML (This is the one I got but at RM 79.90 due to sale/offer at Guardian)

I’m very sure that this product caused MAJOR reduction on my breakouts and acne. And with consistent use, has, dare I say, permenantly gotten rid of my bumpy skin and textures. But

Packaging. I rather it be in a pump or tube packaging. Easier and much more hygienic.

I'm on my 3rd jar.

It does what it’s supposed to do. I like it because it’s simple, straightforward and customisable.

Plus points : 

• Fragrance free
• Light in texture but is sufficient in moisturising on it’s own
• Simple ingredients. Makes it easy for me to add oils when I need a boost of moisture for drier days without causing any irritations or breakouts.
