Hi Picky friends! I’d love to try some more affordable Japanese sunscreens - I really enjoyed using the Kose Suncut Super Waterproof Gel and I’m wondering what other formulas are out there. So many Japanese sunscreens form great films on the skin which I prefer.

Honestly no cons - after I finish my second tube I’m planning on trying aquaphor as it’s fragrance-free so I can use it on my whole face.

This is the perfect basic lip balm! I actually thought this was fragrance-free for a very long time, as it has no scent at all and it doesn’t break me out - a big change from typical fragrances.

This keeps my lips moisturised overnight and the texture is thick and balmy. I like the convenient applicator - it’s far more pleasant than sticking your finger in a Vaseline tub.

A top-tier barrier balm that really helps to soothe the skin, not right as a stand-alone moisturiser for me.

This is a gorgeous, lightweight barrier balm, designed to be used as a stand-alone moisturiser or layered on top of other products for extra hydration!

Key Ingredients: 1% ceramide, squalane, mango seed butter

Fragrance-free and no detectable scent

Texture: this feels like a very lightweight balm with a fair amount of occlusive-ness, but lacking emollients or humectants. It absorbs and dries down quickly to a matte finish.

Experience: this is fantastic when layered on top of other hydrators and moisturisers as an occlusive, final step! Unfortunately I took this as my only travel moisturiser, and I’ve been slathering on a thick coat as it’s not really enough for my skin without even a toner. The texture is so lovely though that I know when used in the right routine, it will be perfect and soothing.


NACIFIC Vegan Sun Essence SPF50+ PA++++

This one was certainly the standout from this set of three NACIFIC products - a lightweight, hydrating and fairly affordable sunscreen!

Filters: Uvinul A+, Uvinul T150, Tinosorb M, Uvasorb HEB

Key Ingredients: niacinamide, adenosine, calendula extract 

Fragrance: a fresh herbal scent that dissipates quickly

Texture: this feels incredibly lightweight - almost whipped! It takes a little while to sit in, but sets to a satin-glowy finish. It’s definitely not on the too dewy side.

Experience: I’ve been using this as my daily neck sunscreen as it feels incredibly lightweight - I’m particularly sensitive to sticky textures on the neck. Again, the essential oils left my face stinging but my neck was completely fine. No white cast but I’m too pale to tell, and this does contain Tinosorb M.

4/5 as a neck/body sunscreen, 1.5/5 as a facial sunscreen due to the essential oils
It’s incredibly lightweight and pleasant to use though 



No brightening effects after several weeks of use morning and night in conjunction with the ampoule, which was disappointing. The hydration was good, but not as stellar as the ampoule.


This also contains similar ingredients to the ampoule, but in lower concentrations - niacinamide, panthenol and 3-O-Ethyl ascorbic acid.

The texture is classic watery toner and absorbs very quickly, which makes this pleasant to use, but it doesn't really feel like anything special.

The packaging is simple, sleek and stylish. The nozzke is good as well.


I tested this for several weeks, consistently using this every evening, with the toner both morning and night, Unfortunately I saw no brightening effects on my PIE, although I have relatively minimal pigmentation on the whole.

The products came well packaged, and the glass ampoule box was padded.

The packaging is very sleek and stylish. I appreciate the thick glass of the ampoule packaging, and the dropper is good. The toner packaging is classic but the toner nozzle is the perfect size.

This contains 77% centella extract, niacinamide, tranexamic acid, madecassoside, panthenol AND 3-O-Ethyl ascorbic acid and plenty of humectants, so it really packs a punch ingredients-wise.
 I did however have a good hydrating effect and I really enjoyed the texture overall.

The texture is very cool and gel-like, with the white capsules that burst as you rub it in. It absorbs quickly and leaves no tacky residue.
