Definitely retinol! It works like magic for me 😊

Umm those are completely different ingredients, like comparing apples and oranges. I'd say retinoids - because they target a lot more skin concerns and are particularly great for aging and acne prone skin.

if the problem is melasma, what ingredients you recommend? 

Definitely not my area of expertise but I'd say both plus chemical exfoliation. I'd use a serum with azelaic acid in the morning and retinoid in the evening (introducing gradually). You can also either go for chemical peels done professionally or use a peeling solution at home (not in the same routine as retinoids). I think vitamin c would be a good addition as well.
