Skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy?

Ok so came to know about few ingredients that you need to avoid during pregnancy. Few of them are retinoids, hydroquinone, salicylic acid (>2%), chemical filters in sunscreen, Benzoly peroxide, parabens, essential oils and aluminium chloride. Just curious what are your take on this topic?

Very relevant for me as I've literally just found out I'm pregnant and the first sign - hormonal acne 🤣 I immediately stopped using retinoids, and not going to use my TO peeling solution, but I will use a low percentage exfoliating serum. Info on salicylic acid is confusing but there's no data that low percentages can ne harmful. Not sure if all chemical sunscreen filters are bad as well. I thought we only need to avoid oxybenzone, homosalate, octocrylene and avobenzone?

thanks for posting this question, I usually check here on picky app if the specific products are pregnancy friendly or not but not totally 100% sure since I haven’t researched the ingredients, I compiled some products on a list that are pregnancy friendly on my routine (but it’s not actually a routine but pregnancy friendly products so I can easily go back and check them) haven’t had the time though not pregnant but hoping ❤️👍🏻 congratulations for all pregnant ladies ❤️👍🏻

I brought up this question to my OB when I was pregnant in 2020 with my son. She told me anything over-the-counter was fine. I wasn't using retinoids at the time so it was a non-issue. I would definitely recommend seeing a dermatologist for specific ingredient concerns. if I was an established patient at one, I would've had a list to ask about. BUT I had the BEST skin when I was pregnant...😂😂😂

that’s interesting by the way! i also thought of the same. there are few exceptions like chemical sunscreen filters and salicylic acid which are not well researched yet. but still people claims not to use them.

I would recommend wearing sunscreen to avoid melasma.
