Do not mix retinols with acids, vitamin C serums.
Use the product only on dry skin to avoid irritation. Moisturiser is applied 20 min after retinols to maximize its effectivity.
Wear sunblock since retinols make the skin more succeptible to UV damage.
Have a basic moisturiser with little to no actives at hand when you feel that it has irritated your skin.

I think an underrated way to minimize irritation, is to use it as a wash off mask. I leave it on for about an hour or two before washing it of, my skin is still glowy, with a lot less irritation!

I don’t use Vit C or exfolliants when I use retinol at night. I find it dries my skin. However if the retinol is formulated with them, it is fine.
Consistency is also key. It takes up to 3 months before you see results, so just hang on there.
If you do find irritation, you can use the moisture sandwhich method or pull back to use every other day, until your skin is ok then go back to use everyday.

can you use retinol at night, wash it off in the morning, then apply vitamin c serum for the day? then wash it off in the evening before applying retinol, etc?
