There are no downside to using this as far as I can tell. It is a little bit complicated to use, so read the instructions carefully. They say to rub it right onto dry skin at first. It just feels like vegetable oil or something, not at all like a cleanser. I usually give myself a nice face massage at this stage when I'm all slippery. Then, it says to wet your hands with warm water and rub your face again. The oily solution turns milky white. I think this is when the cleanser actually traps the skin oils in an emulsion. Lastly, you're supposed to rinse thoroughly with warm water. I try to rinse really well and lwt my pores open in the warmth to cleanse deeper. Sometimes I repeat the oil cleanse if my skin feels really dehydrated or congested. After using Palmer's, any raised bumpy pores are smoothed out and much clearer and smaller. I have tried using this by itself, and it works, but the end result is much better when I follow up with a non-oily SA cleanser to exfoliate dead skin and clear out my pores a little more deeply. The acid in the second cleanser also helps any dark-colored sebum clogs to deoxidize (i.e. fade), to soften, and hopefully to dissolve and clear out. With oily skin, I always have congested pores, but Palmer's makes a huge difference.
