Brightening Vitamin C Face Elixir
This is a vitamin C derivative serum, using ascorbyl glucocide instead of ascorbic acid. This has some pros and cons. Ascorbic acid has the most evidence for its efficacy, but it's also very unstable. Ascorbyl glucoside is less evidence based, but much more stable, and may be more tolerated by sensitive skin.
This serum feels nice to use. The consistency is silky and slippy, but not in a siliconey way. Slides on easily and leaves my skin looking a little dewy.
Contains glycerin and butylene glycol, which help with hydration. Also has some squalane.
On the negative side, I suspect this serum probably only contains quite a small amount of ascorbyl glucoside. The brand doesn't say how much there is, but on the inci list, the ascorbyl glucoside comes after phenoxyethanol. So that suggests there's probably only 1% or less of it.
And from what I heard on the podcast Chemist Confessions (which is made by two cosmetic chemists), ascorbyl glucoside should be at 2-5% concentration. So this doesn't give me a lot of confidence in this serum as a vitamin C product.
The serum is also fragranced, and personally I don't enjoy the scent. It's not overwhelming, but still.
