0.1% Adapalene Gel Acne Treatment

product review positives
Adapalene is a retonoid, in the same family as retinol. Comparing them is like apples, and oranges, or brocolli and cauliflower, or Hall and Oats, Sonny and Cher... wait, what were we talking about? Oh. Yea... It works by affecting the growth of cells and decreasing swelling and inflammation. It may decrease the number and severity of acne pimples and promote quick healing of pimples that do develop. It has a gel-like consistency, without scent. A bit sticky, feels more like a moisturizer as compared to serum, etc.. Adapalene causes what is called a, "purge process". This process should start after 1-2 weeks of consistent everyday use. This simply means it causes the dirt from clogged pores to come to the surface. Depending on your skin, this could take anywhere from 6-8 weeks, meaning the process of your dirt, acne, purging of your pores, the icky coming to the surface. This can give the impression that the gel is making things worse. You know your skin better than anyone, but if you do have mucho acne, enlarged pores, etc... this will get better after time. Simply put, your acne will get worse, before it gets better. Because this is a retonoid, stay out of the tanning beds (no judgement, but do that anyway) and wear sunblock when going outside, even in the winter. (Also, do this anyway) Adapalene can also be used for, cell-turnover, and therefore, anti-aging. It employs several actions on the skin that promote its anti-aging effects. Increase in skin cell turnover, helping to exfoliate the skin, and prevents pores from clogging. It can also help with pigment disorders such as melasma and dark spots resulting from acne and sun exposure. It's used to treat alopecia areata (patchy hair loss). Adapalene can also remove actinic (solar) keratoses—rough, scaly patches on the skin that come from years of sun exposure.
product review negatives
Do not use any actives while using adapalene. Actives such as vtamin c, retinol, salicylic acid, etc... Do not get it anywhere near your eyes, inside the nose, or mouth. At one time you could only get it by prescription, or at least that is what I could ascertain from reading about it. It is a very strong product. It made my face very red, and hurt, I also do not have much acne, just a few scars. I waited, but it didn't seem to go away. Even after using it every night. And using sunblock everyday. I actually just was able to get rid of some redness next to my sideburns with bean-mucin. I wasn't a fan, but that doesn't mean you will not benefit. So, it is a very, very strong product. If you have very bad acne, I think it is worth it. If you can wait 6-8 weeks. If not, go in a different direction. The same, if your acne is mild to moderate. I recommend going in a different direction.
