✨No doubt, Vitamin C has a myriad of benefits - boost collagen production, antioxidant, lighten hyperpigmentation. But no one really talks about its downsides that is it can be sensitising for sensitive/acne-prone skin. Vit C has to be formulated at a low pH in order to be stable - the further the pH of a product is from your skin’s pH of 5.5, the more irritating it can be. My skin’s been more irritated recently after having to constantly change up my routine which is why I decided to temporarily stop Vit C. Another downside is how easily it gets oxidised, esp when u live in SG where it is literally a sauna all year round🥵 Vit C are pretty expensive considering their short shelf-life. You would think that companies would opt for an airless, pump packaging, but majority of Vit Cs still come in dropper bottles.

🤔What about Vit C Derivatives? 
Well, even the highest conc of Vit C derivates may not match up to L- ascorbic acid. However, my main issue is not about effectiveness, but rather it seems like a lot of the popular alternatives contain a bunch of essential oils (Eg. Goodal, Jumiso) which kinda beats the purpose if I’m reaching out for a derivative bc my skin’s sensitised? *inserts reverse uno meme* 💀🤌🏽 A stellar product I’ve tried & worked wonders at fading PIE is Skin&Lab Vit C Brightening Serum which I wanted to get, but the price on yesstyle has hiked up to $45 w shipping, when I had previously gotten it for $25…🥵

✨Anyways, the intention of this post is not to trash talk Vit C, trust me I LOVE a good Vit C & I’ll definitely get back into it once my skin clears up. Okay then what’s the point of all this? Plot twist I just needed an outlet to pms at 😳 ok but for reals, here’s a reminder to listen to your skin needs! Sure, Retinol’s great but do you need it? Vit C in the AM is ideal, but can you tolerate it? You get the point. The baseline is Cleanser, Moisturiser, SPF. Anything on top of that is optional & individualised to what your skin needs! 🙌🏽

With the recent SPF controversy, I’m sure many of us are rather discouraged upon finding out that many of our favourites are not what they claim to be. Attached is a list of SPF testings on quite a number of Korean & Japanese sunscreens, with some (Eg. Biore, Allie, Anessa) meeting their claims while some such as Skin Aqua falling short of their claims. 

(NOTE⚠️: I can’t garuntee the source & credibility of these testing results, so do take it with a pinch of salt)

I also want to add the recent SPF controversy is NOT a problem exclusive to Asian sunscreens, as there have been American/European sunscreens from reputable brands that have also fell short of their SPF claims. The problem is with the way sunscreen testings are conducted & regulated as a whole, TLDR it is a much more complex problem. I don’t think skincare companies are out to intentionally lie to their consumers. 

As consumers, what we can do apart from pushing for more transparency is to diligently REAPPLY OUR SUNSCREENS! I can’t stress this enough, because it is really that important. Someone who reapplys a SPF30 sunscreen diligently is still getting more protection than the person who has only applied a single layer of a SPF50 sunscreen in the morning.

The ideal is 2-3 fingers worth of sunscreen, reapplied every ~2-3hours if you’re outdoors. If your are staying indoors (next to an open window, it is still recommended to reapply at least 1-2x throughout the day. Wear your SPF, rain or shine, except at nigjt!🤍

✨Texture &amp; Application:
This SPF has a beautiful lotion-like texture that blends easily with no whitecast. Though it appears creamy, it actually feels quite lightweight, while still being sufficiently hydrating for my combi-dehydrated skin. I can afford to skip my moisturiser. It leaves a natural, slight glow w&#47;o leaving me looking greasy by the end of the day with reapplication. This also doesn’t sting my eyes!

This is my new HG &amp; I’ll recommend this for all skin types except perhaps oily skin folks? My t-zone doesn’t get oily with this though so maybe you can give it a shot as a 2-in-1. There’s also other impressive skin-beneficial ingredients such as Vit C (Brightening), Tocopherol (Vit E), Portulaca Oleracea Extract (Soothing), HA (Hydration)! Overall i really love this sunscreen and woukd highly recommend.

This is on tbe drier side despite it containing squalane, i dont think this would be suitable for normal-dry skin

This is the only physical sunscreen in my skincare stash! I absolutely love this one, it has physical filters but it doesnt leave that patchy white cast. This would be great for oily acne prone skin as it contains other beneficial ingredients such as mugwort, 2% niacinamide &amp; squalane. It leave a nice brightening tone up effect ( but not whitening)

I absoluteky love using this after a long day if mask weaing! It helps to purify my skin as thus contains mild azuki bean granules for gentle exfoliation. It leaves my skin feel refreshed with a cooling sensation!

Nothing bad about the product itself, just that the mask is on the slightly more expensive side!

This OG mugwort wash-off mask contains ground mugwort specifically from Ganghwa Island. It has a concentrated gel formula to preserve its active ingredients, ensuring that your skin directly benefits from the goodies. It has a strong earthy scent which i actually really enjoy! I used this the other day when my skin was feeling irritated from a long day of mask-wearing &amp; I was pleasantly surprised that this not only helped with calming and soothing effects, but it also left my skin looking significantly clearer. This would be great for all skin types, especially oily&#47;acne-prone&#47;sensitive skin types.

This may be a boring product to some and with so many centella products out there, it really boils down to which works better for your particular skin type &amp; also your personal preference (:

I love how calming &amp; hydrating this is! This contains a good mixture of ceramides &amp; centella for repairing the skin barrier and soothening irritated skin. A bottle lasts a long way!
