Hi! For the past couple years I’ve been sticking to mainly these brands: The Ordinary, The Inkey List, Cerave, and Cetaphil. While I love their products and they do work very well on my skin, I was wondering if anyone had any  recommendations from other brands for oily/acne prone skin that’s somewhat affordable! These can be serums, cleansers, moisturizers, etc. I do not have a preference! Just curious to see what’s out there and to broaden my horizons :) <3

Affordable Product Suggestions

I’m sure at some point all of us have received some sort of advice or “skincare hacks”, whether it’s from a friend, family member, someone online, tik tok, or an online blog. I was wondering, what is the worst advice you have ever heard or received from someone?

I was told once that if I was out of moisturizer I could just use regular body lotion on my face… 😬 Due to me being a child at the time and extremely impressionable, I tried it out with my favorite Bath and Body Work’s Japanese Cherry Blossom lotion… my face was BURNED. My skin was extremely red and sensitive and it hurt to even touch it, let alone wash it, for several days. Definitely wouldn’t reccomend.

Do you have any bad advice you’ve been given, or just general B.S you’ve heard? Feel free to share :)

What’s the worst skincare “hack” or advice you’ve received?

I was highly recommended to try out COSRX  since they are high quality but also affordable. I’m 14 years old and I currently have acne prone and combination skin (I have normal cheeks but an oily t-zone). I was wondering if anyone who has experience with this brand and has similar skin concerns could give me some recommendations to start out? I really want to try a couple of their products but I’m not sure where to start or what works best for my skin.

- [Occasionally] Equate Beauty Benzoyl Peroxide Spot Treatment* ✔️

*Was using the COSRX foaming salicylic acid cleanser beforehand, but found it wasn’t very strong and swapped. 

*I use this in VERY small amounts on bigger pimples only.

Since starting, I’ve noticed I’ve been a bit oilier and got a couple small pimples on the right side of my face, which is odd because these products are supposed to help my acne. I was wondering if anyone knew if any of the ingredients in these products don’t mesh well, or if I was just purging?

Purging, or just a bad combo of ingreidents?

As someone who grew up in a house where there was a tight budget, most of my skincare products came from the drugstore.  I want to be able to give my opinion on some of the best products I’ve tried from drugstore brands. If you’re looking for some skincare products but don’t want to break the bank, here are some great ones I personally recommend! My skin is currently oily and acne prone, but I also added some products for drier skin as well! 

If you have senesitive skin like I do, I personally recommend sticking with Cetaphil. Their products tend be a bit on the gentler side and work great! My personal favorite by them is the gentle skin cleanser. 

Obviously I live in a certain location and haven’t tried products from every drugstore, so if you have a go-to drugstore product that I didn’t list feel free to share it in the replies!

Best of Drugstore Skincare

Nothing bad about this product at all! However, definitely consider the 4% if you have more sensitive skin since it is very strong.

Picky didn’t lie about this one, it truly is a holy grail product for oily, resilient, acne prone skin! I find the benzoyl peroxide does an outstanding job clearing up my acne, especially with the 10% instead of the smaller 4% dosage. I use it in the morning and at night and it truly is such a miracle worker! My acne is less inflamed, smaller, and way less visible very quickly. I’ve been sticking with this cleanser the past couple of months and have nothing but love and positive words for it!

Because the benzoyl peroxide can be strong on the skin, I find my facr can become a tad bit dry, but that’s easily fixed by adding a moisturizer into the routine!

Not sure why picky said this was risky for my skin type… weird but alright haha! I was reccomended this by my doctor and it’s worked wonders on my acne! My newer blemishes went away very quickly and I have waaaaay less breakouts! It even worked on my larger pimples and blackheads as well! I use it twice a day and it truly is a holy grail product of mine.

Nothing bad about this! I did notice one or two pimples emerge the first week of using, but they went away pretty fast, so I can’t guaruntee if that was purging or if it was just a hormonal breakout.

I honestly love this product so much!! I won it in a giveaway and I’ve had no complaints. While using it I’ve noticed a significant decrease in redness on my skin, and it’s even helped fade some of my acne scarring! It has no fragrance and doesn’t irritate my skin and helps with my oiliness!

I really liked this lip oil! Nothing bad to say!

I’m not usually super big on lip oils, but this one is great! It’s better than most lip masks I’ve tried! It made my lips so much more moisturized and soft, and I tend to get dry and soft lips pretty often.

The stick itself does feel very weird going on at first, which I’m starting to realize is just a main issue with stick sunscreens in general, but it goes away pretty quickly.

I honestly was expecting to hate this after trying the Coppertone sunscreen stick, but I actually liked it! It did a great job protecting my skin from UV rays, I’m very pale and tend to burn often when in the sun but when using this that wasn’t the case. I usually prefer lotions, but this is great for when you’re on the go due to how fast and easy it is to put on! It fits very easily into my mini backpack.
