Hi everyone! I just want to know what’s the difference between ampoules, serums, emulsions, essences and refiners? I have products from almost each of these categories and the only thing I know is that you apply them after a toner. I notice some have thicker consistency, some are more watery. I want to know what is really the difference between them? If there were already discussions about this topic, I am sorry, I probably missed it 😞

What Is The Difference?

I kept seeing discussions asking for recommendations for the next best lip product. I even recommended some (like Vaseline and La Roche Possay 🥲). However, after a long time using various lip products from big brands like Nivea to small business brands you would get from local markets to newer brands like I Dew Care, I came to a conclusion that all of them make my lip skin worse. I usually apply it during night and then wake up with that feeling as if my lip skin became thinner (I think that word best describes how my lip skin feels). Then I might apply more product throughout the day and it feels as if it dries out the skin while it dries out itself or while it gets absorbed. So my lip skin cracks almost every single time I apply something on my lips. 
I once tried using the lip scrub and it made my skin so irritated it got red and itchy. I thought I rubbed too hard, so I waited for some time for skin to heal (maybe two weeks or so). I then used the scrub again and was very gentle - still I ended up with irritated burning skin. 
When I use Vaseline it feels heavy and doesn’t bring desired results either. My skin gets tingly and lips get dry as soon as the product is not there.
I know I’m better off without using anything. Once my lip skin heals on its own it doesn’t crack and bleed. But I just want to have softer lips 😔
Have you ever experienced something like this? When the product makes it worse in the very area it’s supposed to help?

Do Lip Products Make Lip Skin Worse?

Saw this ad while going through the stories on Instagram, and I wonder if it’s actually this good. I know I should be going to the reviews, but I just got curious. The brand claims it’s “the secret” to the glass skin. Is it really this simple? I’ve seen Versed products in Shoppers Drug Mart many times, but I don’t need anything, so I just pass by. Now I wonder if that should be my future purchase. Or should I stay skeptical 😯

Я раньше не придавала этому особое значение, использовала то же, что и летом. А сейчас чувствую, что крема нужны погуще (для ночного ухода).

И солнышко очень яркое, хорошо, что есть такой богатый выбор солнцезащитных кремов.

If I’m not mistaken, I remember the featured post (I think it was called “Is Picky Still Fun” or something like that), and that post said that we can sign up to fill out the insight survey. They would then choose 5 people to further ask them about their opinion on Picky. I can’t find that post anymore and so the details as well. Does anyone know where can I find that post? Or has anyone received the email that they’re chosen for an interview (well, not the the interview, I think it was more like a call with the Picky team to discuss how to improve Picky)?

I found it to be drying, actually. This particular shade. It made my lips flakey 😔 But, I also use the Laneige berry lip mask… which was supposed to keep lips soft, but mine just look like they’re dehydrated. If I rub my lips with a finger… skin comes off (sorry for the visual, but that is my truth).

What I thought was gonna be an almost transparent lip balm actually gave my lips full deep colour. I guess it adjusts to your natural skin tone and enhances it like 10 times. Looks very pretty and suits many different looks for various occasions!

It’s sheer, but it also gives enough colour! It is not glossy, it has something like a satin finish. 

Looking at the product description on Amazon I am very happy with the ingredients the brand put into the balms. 

Recently I noticed that I had some redness and new acne, and while I don’t think it’s the cream (but the cakes I ate that I usually don’t eat), I thought I need to mention it. It got me thinking that my skin is tired from using the same products (the Safe me line only) every single day. It might be because I never had creams in my daily routines. It would always be a toner and a serum. Sometimes spot treatments and sleeping masks, but never creams. 

I also started feeling like it’s clogging pores on my nose. The cream is on a heavier side. Maybe using it twice a day is too much so I added a regular peeling treatment to my routine and now it’s much better. 

The reason why I still give 5 stars is because the above is an expected reaction of my skin, and with some adjustments to my routine, the cream works very good for me.

The fact that this cream did not break me out, but calmed my irritated skin was the good part about this product! The best part. 

My skin had some active acne and redness because of the cream I used before. It was a new product that didn’t work for me at all. So I was actually scared to use yet another product on my face when this cream arrived. I remember opening this tube in the evening and thinking of doing a patch test, but then I didn’t have patience waiting 24 hours before using it again so I put a thin layer of cream on my entire face. Don’t do that, do the patch test first! Anyways… can you imagine my surprise when I woke up with a calm skin with no new acne? I think it was the moment I never forget because I was so amazed. I used it in the morning, and then at night, and then the next morning… and every single day. I used it yesterday too.

This cream does not irritate my skin, does not cause any redness or itchiness. 

Texture is very soft, but feels quite heavy. Doesn’t absorb too quick, yet it’s not sticky. Smells like some chemical, but it doesn’t bother me when on the face. The packaging is nice, the tube is not hard so it’s easy to squeeze.

I would purchase this cream so I can always have something that would calm my skin and also moisturize it. I give 5 stars because it is one of the only creams that worked for me. Gentle and soothing.

Honestly, for me, there was nothing bad about this product.

The only thing that I can think of is that it would be perfect if it came with a tweezer (tweezers on the media are my own). But that’s just packaging, in terms of the product itself there was nothing bad for me.

Everything was good about this product! 

Texture:
Feels as soft as cotton candy! Drenched in essence, but it won’t drip once you take it out, the cotton pad will just feel heavy. It smells very lightly of something I cannot identify, but it’s not unpleasant. And it does not smell like onion. At all.

My experience:
It almost instantly calms my skin and reduces redness 😦 I felt like the first time I used it it was a coincidence that my skin became less inflamed, so I used it 4 more times and fair enough all 4 times my skin felt much better after. I go over my entire face and then leave the cotton pad on the most problematic spots (ahem, my cheeks or chin) and let it heal my skin. It helped me with acne too. I had a huge zit on my chin and I used this onion pad at night, the next morning the zit reduced in size and became less itchy! I’m impressed 😮

I believe this product is very good for oily acne prone sensitive skin, that’s why it helped me so much. But if you just want something calming, then I’d recommend it too. 

Bad:
♦️ On the tube it says: “intensely calms”, but I did not experience any calming on my skin.
♦️ It doesn’t get absorbed and just stays on the skin as a thin slippery film.
♦️ I think it irritated my skin since I got more acne after using it and some old acne didn’t even heal.
♦️ Felt useless.

Texture didn’t feel nice to me. It felt plasticy for some reason, some primers feel this way, as if skin is covered with a thin film. It wasn’t heavy though.

Good:
♦️ It has an interesting smell, light herbal/chemical. 
♦️ Very convenient tube. Easy to squeeze the right amount.
♦️ I think it helped me heal one big pimple. It still took days to heal, but no scar, blemish was left. This effect however was inconsistent since other acne didn’t heal.

These are super duper thin! They are barely noticeable, and barely feel-able, you won’t even remember they’re there (but don’t wear them for more than 24 hours!!!) The patches protect skin from the external environment and help skin heal faster.

There is like a whole list of “caution” on the back of the packaging, so I feel like I need to include it.
