Does the method of application of exfoliant matter? I mean in terms of rubbing or patting

Exfoliation

- it was super greasy for my face
- Stung my eyes badly
- the ingredients usually separated. Couldn't use without shaking the bottle first

It comes in a glass bottle. Can easily be broken
