Your skin would be showing signs of dehydration and irritation, itching, tingling, tight feeling, overproduction of sebum, redness - could be just one of those. How often do you exfoliate and with what products?

ah well St Ives is a scrub (physical exfoliant) which can damage your skin by making micro tears. I would highly recommend switching to a chemical exfoliant - there are many discussions about it on Picky.
There are different types of chemical exfoliants (acids), most common are salicylic acid and glycolic acid. For gentle daily exfoliation, I would suggest a cleanser with salicylic acid. If you've never used chemical exfoliants before, introduce the product gradually into your routine starting with a couple of times a week.
I personally loved this one from Cerave but there are lots to choose from. You can also go for a toner, serum or a mask - it doesn't have to be a cleanser.
And please ditch St Ives, your skin will thank you! 😊

When my face starts to get dry or get ultra oily, it is too much exfolliation or too strong of it. Both are easily remedied by either reducing the percentage or reducing the usage to a few times a week.

Hey I did a discussion about overexfoliation! ♡
You can check it out!
But the signs for overexfoliation differs for everyone but when my skin feels very dry and tight I know that crossed the line
