Hiya! I’ve just joined Picky and thought it would be a good idea to hold a safe space for those struggling with skin picking and dermatillomania!

I’ve personally struggled with picking my skin ever since primary school and when I started breaking out at age 7/8, I would attack every zit, bump and invisible bump on my face.

It can be really lonely especially when everyone tells you to “just stop.” 

Although I’m nowhere near completely overcoming dermatillomania I feel like I’ve been able to stop picking at my face and letting it clear up. Some things that had helped me are:

-A huge step was being more conscious of when I picked. I’d work myself towards catching myself mid picking stop whatever my hand/arm did, and then put it back at my side. This helped me work on breaking the compulsion I’d do often without thinking.

-Getting treatment for anxiety, depression and ocd 

-hormonal contraception, antibiotics and prescribed adapalene to keep my acne at bay

-Pimple patches or spot treatment to stop picking

-Accepting and forgiving myself whenever I relapse (being kind to myself)

My only concern is that the due to the bottle design theres loads of residue at the top of the cap.

I prefer this over The Ordinary Niacinamide, because the texture is easier to apply to my face. I notice a different when applying this!

I avoid using this if my skin has rashes or sunburn, and the tingly can be a bit too much for me.

Also I will only keep this on for 10 minutes or less, because it can cause a chemical burn.

I keep repurchasing this product!! It is my holy grail.

It has really helped me with my skin texture and minimizing clogged pores.

My skin is so amazing after using this.

This can be a bit stripping so I recommend moisturising after!

This used to be my go-to cleanser. It removes makeup and helped me keep acne at bay. The only reason I don‘t use it anymore is that I wanted to try other cleansers.

I would consider this a luxury product. I REALLY hope that the mica in it isn’t from child labour...

Although my face seems radiant after using, I don’t see significant improvements over weeks of use.

I like that this is fragrance-free, you keep this on for just 3-5 minutes and its a clay mask which doesnt dry out my skin.

I really enjoy the experience and a little product goes a long way!

There can be a purge when you start using the product. 

Also leads to piling :(
