✨𝐈𝐜𝐡𝐭𝐡𝐲𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐕𝐮𝐥𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬✨ ✅ 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙮, 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙣 It is due to mutations in the gene encoding the protein filaggrin. Filaggrin is a protein required for the binding of keratin fibres in epidermal cells, to form an effective skin barrier. A good skin barrier is important to maintain the skin pH, retain moisture in the stratum corneum, and reduce trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). ✅ 𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙤𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 If there's mutation in only one of the genes, it will be a mild form of the disease. If two of the genes are mutated, it will be a more severe form of the disease. ✅ 𝙐𝙨𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝 Most will present at 2 months of age and before the age of 5. Symptoms may worsen up to puberty, and may improve with age ✅ 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Affects the extensor aspect of the limbs, scalp, face and trunk.
