How do you know that you are over exfoliating?

Your skin would be showing signs of dehydration and irritation, itching, tingling, tight feeling, overproduction of sebum, redness - could be just one of those. How often do you exfoliate and with what products?

When my face starts to get dry or get ultra oily, it is too much exfolliation or too strong of it. Both are easily remedied by either reducing the percentage or reducing the usage to a few times a week.
