UV Protection Milk SPF50
Curel is a brand owned by Japanese conglomerate Kao, which also owns other brands like Biore. Curel products are formulated specifically for sensitive skin types, so I was expecting this to be a physical sunscreen, and I was right. This contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as its two main filters, and is rated SPF50+ PA+++. For mineral sunscreens, you should expect a rather strong white cast if it is SPF50. This is an okay sunscreen and it didnt really wow me in any way.
💦Texture: While this is a 100% physical sunscreen, it is not heavy and thick like traditional sunscreens are. It is a rather watery sunscreen that (I think) sits in an alcohol base. You will have to shake very vigorously to mix everything together.
✋🏻Application: Because of the lightweight watery texture, this spreads and sets easily on the skin.
💨Performance: I only used this indoors, so I cannot entirely verify whether their claims of SPF50 are indeed true. This sunscreen holds up very well throughout the day. No pilling whatsoever. It also has a very matte finish.
🌸Fragrance: No added fragrance whatsoever, however this does have a mineral sunscreen smell.
1. Performance: Precisely because it holds up so well and is so water resistant, I find that you’ll have to at least double cleanse to remove everything entirely (bad news for sensitive skin folks who want to avoid double cleansing). I once tried to remove this just using soap and it was a bad move. My soap barely removed anything, and the sunscreen ended up becoming more “stuck” to my face. I would also only recommend this to oily sensitive skin folks as the sunscreen tended to dry out my face (even worse in air conditioned environments).
2. Whitecast: As with all mineral sunscreens, this has a noticeable white cast, even on myself who has very fair skin. This gets worse throughout the day as I reapply more layers. Referencing the picture, the white cast looked ghostly on me by the third application of the day. Needless to say I stopped reapplying this so many times, and only use it indoors when I usually reapply less.
3. Price: This is one of the more expensive sunscreens I’ve tried. Additionally, it only comes in a small 60ml bottle. I would say that for people who don’t have sensitive skin and are not bothered by fragrance, the Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish is the way to go. Very similar in terms of consistency, at ⅓ or ¼ of the price.
