Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick
Tl;dr up front: very comfortable and pigmented satin-or-a-bit-shinier lipstick, distinctive smell, weak-ish longevity but paradoxically transfer-resistant. Good buy!
I tried three YSL Rouge Pur Couture Satin lipstick shades (01 Le Rouge, 70 Le Nu, and 83 Fiery Red) that I bought as a mini set from Sephora. I really like them, but they’re a little puzzling, which I will get to below. But first off: the formula is very creamy/hydrating and glides on smooth. There’s great color payoff, and I’m a big fan of these shades, particularly the two reds. (Le Nu is a bit more pink than what I’d normally choose in a nude, but I can still appreciate it.) Nice lustrous satin finish, too, maybe even a little shinier than I was expecting. The only thing that might stop me from purchasing a full size when I’m done with these? Simply that I already have too many damn lipsticks.
The smell—I still haven’t figured out whether I love it or hate it, lol. It’s like… floral plus raspberry Crystal Light? You can smell it when it’s on your lips, and I can see it being a dealbreaker, so I’d seek out a mini or take a whiff at a store before purchasing a full size if you’re unfamiliar with it.
Now the weird bit. The longevity isn’t great—it’s definitely fading by three hours and will absolutely not survive food. But despite this weakness, it somehow doesn’t transfer, like, AT ALL. I was drinking from my coffee mug pretty soon after applying Le Rouge and there was just… nothing on the rim. Maybe the faaaaintest lip print. And it was still very pigmented on my lips at that point! The combination of incredible transfer resistance and weak duration seems strange to me, but maybe I’m just sheltered in my lipstick experience.
