🌱 I received this from Neopharm as part of a giveaway in exchange for my honest review 🌱 🌱 Brand Story: Real Barrier is a sub-brand of Neopharm that focuses their lines of products on dry, sensitive skin. Their products combine layers of hydrating and moisturising ingredients with ceramides and a trademarked “Multi-lamellar emulsion” to help rebuild damaged skin barriers. 🌱 Claims: All Neopharm products are free from: Parabens, Ethanol, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil, Phenoxyethanol, PEG, Artificial Fragrances**, Benzophenone, Diethanolamine and Artificial Pigments 🌱 Key Ingredients: This sunscreen contains 4 different UV filters, including 1 hybrid physical-chemical filter 🌱Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (UVA) 🌱Ethylhexyl Triazone (UVB) 🌱Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol (UVA/UVB) 🌱Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone (UVA/UVB) There are many good skin-loving ingredients in this formula, including powerhouse Niacinamide, Ectoin, Madecassoside (an active ingredient in Centella Asiatica), and Panthenol It also has Ascorbyl Glucoside, which is a stable form of vitamin C that won’t simply degrade if you look at it wrong. 🌱 pH: Unknown 🌱 Texture: A lightweight opaque cream. Almost a watery-style sunscreen, but it stays in place on your fingers. 🌱 Scent: This product is not unscented. It has a gentle, fresh lavender scent. More info on that below. 🌱 Price: $32CA for 40mL or $0.80/mL Application: No white cast at all. I would not call the finish greasy. It’s not. But there is a lingering moisture that tells me this product will neither sit on top of my skin nor evaporate away. It’s hard to describe to people who don’t have consistently dry skin. It’s what we all dream of when we say “dewy finish”. It’s not sticky, it’s not waxy, or oily. It’s Moist. Real Barrier has put together an excellent formula for dry skin that contains multiple emollient and humectant ingredients working in unison to provide both immediate and long-lasting moisture. This is a sunscreen that I look forward to applying. I have not noticed any stinging around my eyes, nor other reactions. It’s not a comfort trade-off putting this on, only a benefit. This also plays very well with other dewy makeup formulas like cream blush or liquid highlighter. 🌱 Every day? You should be wearing appropriate coverage of SPF every day. My philosophy is to wear whatever you find most comfortable. Consistency is more important than sporadic, but high SPF. 🩵💚This sunscreen is REEF SAFE!💚🩵 🌱 Notes: While this product claims to be free from artificial fragrances, it does contain some fragrant essential oils that can cause oxidation and skin sensitivity: 🌱 Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, but is a known skin irritant 🌱 T-Butyl Alcohol is a solvent that happens to be fragrant, and has an EWG rating of 3, which means it has had some mild/low concerns come up in research. 🌱 Linalool is a common fragrance component. It oxidises upon air exposure and can lead to skin irritation 🌱 Limonene, similar to Linalool, this volatile fragrant component can cause skin irritation. I don’t want to cause a panic, these ingredients are not in large amounts, and the smell is not unbearable. It is actually quite pleasant. But as a product advertised as being hypoallergenic and restorative to damaged skin, I think it does itself a disservice by including small amounts of fragrance. I really think this formula would be amazing if it was 100% scent-free. 🌱 Packaging: This sunscreen comes in a slim squeeze tube with a twist-off cap. It is quite portable for carrying in your bag. 🌱 Accessibility: The oblong shape of the tube and cap make it easy to hold and open. The tube has a flow-reduction head and a twist-lock cap. It is very thin, so it does not stand up easily on its own, but it is easily stored in a bag for travel. 🌱 Sustainability: My only complaint with Asian sunscreens in general, is that they come in such small sizes! We are supposed to wear a generous amount of SPF every day, while also reapplying, and yet the sizes available are so small! Sell me a big tub by the truckload! I would happily buy a much bigger tube and save on the plastic and shipping cost overseas. This product is not refillable. The cap is recyclable, and tube if cut and cleaned. Overall: One of the best sunscreen formulas for dry skin I have ever tried. This is an elegant formula that relieves dryness and tightness while providing adequate sun protection. Oily skin types may not like it, but anyone on the normal to dry side should absolutely give it a try. If you are only used to greasy North American sunscreens, this will be a brand new experience.
