HELP! Tretinoin cream vs. gel

Help please!! So I was on 0.05 cream for a little over a week and it was just too harsh and my skin was peeling bad and very irritated even tho I sandwiched and constantly moisturized and followed all the "rules" I should. So I called my Dr and they sent in 0.025 so I just started that tonight but they gave me a gel? Aren't gels more drying or better for oily skin or something? I think I've read most people don't like the gel. I already have dry skin. And the smell of the gel is awful, like rubbing alcohol and it absorbed so fast I could barely spread it around. And trying to put moisturuzer over it it balled all up.. Should I call and have them give me 0.025 cream?
