Can retinol cause acne? I recently included Cerave resurfacing retinol serum in my skincare routine and I noticed an acne breakout..

I didn't change my routine, I just included retinol.

Yes, retinol and other actives like Vitamin C, BHA, AHA, etc can cause purging which is when the skin reacts negatively to the active and breaks out. Your skin has to adjust and get used to you using this new active you've introduce into your routine and that's why it's breaking out.

this! don't let the product just because it's causing purging. things get worse before getting better, just give it time!! the thing is, diferenciate if it's purging or if it's a bad reaction. for Me, a bad reaction is when it's causing my skin to be sensitive, little small texture and redness

you're experiencing purging, this is normal and should fix itself once your skin has adjusted

Yes it can, I got cystic acne when I started, it took about 3 to 4 weeks for it to settled down for my skin.

it's a common reaction for the skin to adapt the active ingredient for the first time and should be okay onwards within 3 to 4 weeks

In the beginning I experienced redness as I used too much Retinol.
