Heya ! So purging happens because the retinol is pushing all of the gunk that is deep inside your skin to the surface. But if you never had acne before, your purge should not be as bad, especially with a milder retinol like the some by mi.
While a purge is possible, you might want to consider that this product is actually irritating your skin and causing new issues, rather than solving them. If you experience extreme dryness, redness, burning skin, your barrier is damaged and I recommend you stop using retinol, or at least take a break from it.
Did you start retinol for acne? Fine lines? What does the rest of your routine look like? Could other products be causing irritation, are you using other actives besides the retinol?
How long a purge lasts is very different per person. Most often, retinol will show its full benefits after 3 months! I personally am in the middle of my tretinoin purge so I feel your pain, lol. Good luck <3
