Lotion P50W (Phenol-Free)
Ok I honestly cannot decide whether this product is my best friend or worst enemy.
For starters, P50 is a cult favorite and has a bunch of celebrities that swear by it. It’s expensive, French and somewhat controversial for its ingredients. This version is “P50W” which is supposedly formulated for sensitive skin, and is also phenol-free. I got the small travel size to try it out.
Even though it says “lotion” this is a watery toner with some powerful chemical exfoliants: AHA/BHA/PHA. Also yes, there is vinegar in here, and you can smell it. Not terrible but I do feel like I’m dressing my face for a salad. I apply by pressing a few drops directly to my face (not to a cotton pad because I hate to waste) after cleansing.
When I was using this regularly, I did feel like my skin was brighter and less dull. I’m not sure it had much effect on my acne though, and I ultimately went from using it daily to now using it only once a week, since I started a strong retinoid.
It’s supposed to be for sensitive skin, but my skin sometimes does react when I use this — I turn red and feel a slight sting. So does that mean I shouldn’t use it? Or does that mean that it’s working? I honestly don’t know. But I probably won’t be repurchasing and instead opting for something more soothing and less masochistic.
