Melano CC Whitening Lotion
Now don't be confused. In Japan, toners are called lotions so this particular product is just a brightening toner. If you're familiar with the more well-known Hada Labo products, they also advertise their toners as lotions, and coincidentally, they're also manufactured by Rohto, the same company that developed the Melano CC line.
Being the skincare junkie that I am, I did my research first before having purchased this product and here's what the main ingredients are:
- L-Ascorbic Acid 2-Glucoside and Ascorbic Acid, which are 2 Vitamin C variations
- Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate, which is a Licorice derivative that claims to calm and soothe the skin
- Alpinia Katsumadai Seed Extract, which is a brightening extract that claims to suppress melanin that causes hyperpigmentation and skin discoloration
I used this lotion (toner) for about 6 months and paired it with the Melano CC Vitamin C Essense. I could've easily used another kind of toner but knowing that the pH level of the Vitamin C essence is a very low 3.5 to 4.0, I needed something that would balance my skin's pH level. So yeah, I wasn't feeling risky back then so I just bought the toner from the same product line.
The first thing I noticed about the lotion was its oilier-than-usual consistency, but not to the point that my skin would feel icky. It gets easily absorbed by the skin so it really didn't bother me that much at all.
As for its scent, it has this mild citrusy fragrance that most Vitamin C products have.
There's actually not much to hate about this lotion, other than the fact that it has alcohol and fragrance, but surprisingly, my skin never reacted to any skincare product that has alcohol and fragrance in it, and my skincare mantra is "anything Japanese-made, sign me up, gurl!".
