Yunicorn Celestial Jelly Daily Mask Cleanser
Positives first. This sparkly jelly turns into a soft, milky emulsion the second it comes into contact with water. Beautiful.
Negatives. I found it to be gritty. I have no idea what made it so, I don’t think it has anything to do with the glitter particulates because they are micro in size, but who knows. I actually found it a little painful…
But my biggest concern is the fact that after a second glance at the inky list, I realised that the only “preservative” ingredient used is rosemary extract. I even got in touch with the brand to confirm this, which they did.
Rosemary extract is not a preservative system. It’s an antioxidant. It will slow dow the process of the oils going rancid, but will not prevent bacteria and mould from growing in a product. Antioxidants cannot kill mould and fungi.
It’s an ingredient that I often see “natural” brands using in liew of a “chemical” preservative system. Which is of course fine when a product is free of any water, and is just oils. But this is a tub cleanser that will typically sit next to a tap, or even in a shower. It doesn’t even come with a scoop spatula. So not getting water into it not a realistic expectation, and honestly, it’s a little disappointing on the brand’s part. I tried scooping some out with my dry hands and then awkwardly replacing the top with goop all over my fingers before splashing around at the sink. But cleansing can get messy!
Sorry if this has sounded like a rant, because otherwise it is a nice, fun novelty-esque product, which I have enjoyed. I just raced through it before it grew anything nasty 😬
