5 Stars Retinoid + Niacinamide Eye Serum

product review positives
SRP: US $65.00 Size: 15 mL/ 0.5 oz PAO: 12 months Retinol for the eye area! The 5 Stars Eye Serum from Sunday Riley is a nighttime anti-aging eye serum made especially for the delicate skin around the eyes. This is a serum so I use this under my regular eye cream. It contains anti-aging ingredients Retinol and Granactive Retinoid, skin-brightening Niacinamide, skin-strengthening Ceramide NP, and skin-soothing trio Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, and Asiatic Acid from centella asiatica. It comes in a tube with a nice applicator. No fragrance nor essential oils. The serum appears a little bit yellow in color which is understandable since retinol is bright yellow. It’s lightweight, quickly absorbed, does not pill, and works well under any eye cream or facial cream. I know retinol is not as strong as tretinoin, but the retinol in this is potent enough for the skin around the eyes which is thin and sensitive. I use this every other night, sometimes every second night. I’ve tried nightly but that was too much. The skin on the outer corners of my eyes felt raw and touching it was painful. Using the eye cream less frequently would be the best course of action. For even application with less skin tugging, it’s recommended to dot the serum all over the eye area before rubbing it in.
product review negatives
May be too strong for those with sensitive skin or those not used to retinol. I suggest using sparingly and less frequently for the first few weeks. I felt some stinging the first time I used it, and that’s coming from someone who applies tretinoin directly to her undereyes. The second time I used this was two days later, I used just a tiny amount, followed by a thick, moisturizing eye cream. That worked well as there was no stinging. This contains alcohol but it’s near the bottom of the ingredient list.
