Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment
Almost cleared my hormonal acne! Also changed mt complexion to be more glowy and smooth. This is a long detailed review so I’ll just get to it. I had hormonal whiteheads all around my jawline as a result of being off my birth control temporarily. Even after getting back on, I was still getting acne all over my jawline. I have tried every combination of products and I honestly was ready to see a derm but couldn’t really afford it. I learned that some dermatologists can reccomend differin as an OTC treatment for acne and I didn’t know if it would work for me HOWEVER I wanted to try it anyways because I would have hated to show up to the derm and be sent away with instructions for OTC differin that I could have gotten without the appointment. I purged for about 10 weeks, and had light irritation that subsided with the purging. I used no other actives until 12 weeks was up and irritation was gone. The blackheads on my nose disappeared and my skin was brighter which was just an added bonus because all I wanted was to stop breaking out! In the last 4 months of use I have seen great improvement. I still get occasional pimples and I am starting to add other actives into my routine but it is nothing like it was before.
You have to go through the “purge”. Now if you research you will find that it should not make your skin worse than it has ever been, and you should not get lots of acne in new places. Thanks to the pandemic I wore my mask the whole purge while out in public so nobody really even knew it was happening lol.

Hi! I was not sure how my skin would react to differin so I used the differin gentle cleanser and the differin soothing moisturizer at night, and the cerave hydrating cream cleanser in the am and differin oil absorbing spf 30 in the am. I just chose the products made to be used with it. Now about 6 months in I have continued using cerave hydrating cleanser but added cerave SA cleanser (would not at all reccomend for starting out), and kept both differin brand moisturizers as they are cheap and effective. I would reccomend using all gentle simple products with differin gel to begin with, because again you want to know if the gel is working and make sure there are no interactions, but if you want to try your vitamin C moisturizer use it in the am when you aren’t using differin and see how it works. I also reccomend aquaphor / vaseline to cover under nose/ sensitive skin when you use differin because it will irritate those parts.

What cleanser and moisturizer did you use for the 12 weeks without actives? I was thinking I could use the neutrogena gentle cleanser again while I wait it out and a really basic moisturizer. I have one with vitamin c that I haven't finished that works just fine as something more neutral but I've heard different things about combining retinoids with vitamin c.
