Help! I had a Irritant Atopic Dermatitis

Hi! I experienced Irritant Atopic Dermatitis according to my Dermatologist but my face seems to be okay now. She only recommended that I use Cetaphil as my facial wash and no other skin products. I have a lot of skincare products here, waiting to be apply and review. I know I have to do a patch test first. But how? Thank you so much for your help.

i do pacth test by applying it on a specific parts which I always patch test at the skin behind my ear since you have a dermatitis try to use it behind your ear too rather than on face and if it didn’t give any irritation to your skin proceed to apply it to your face but add it slowly so your skin wont be shock like using it every other day in 2 weeks and everday in the third week~

Scaling back to a basic routine is a good idea for when your skin gets compromised but I can’t imagine your dermatologist meant to scale back forever. I’d introduce your products back in one by one every two weeks. When you’re starting a lot of new products at once and combining a lot of things, it gets hard to pinpoint what is inflaming your poor skin. It might be helpful to share the routine and products you were doing prior to the dermatitis to get more specific feedback.

You have an awesome point here. Thank you for reminding me. My skincare routine is basically: facial wash-serum-day/night cream-sunblock I'll take your advice.

Oh no, poor you 💕 Return to a basic skincare routine. It helped me when my skin barrier was compromised. Regarding patch tests, I do mine behind my ears. Another area to consider is the inner arms, elbow joint.

incorporating gentler ,not harsh products would do for your skin. Stepping back from vigorous or multiple skincare step. Back to basic routine is a good way to heal your skin.

I agree with everyone. Stripping back to a basic skincare routine of a cleanser and moisturiser (SPF 30+ in the AM) will reduce the risk of dermatitis again. Ensure your products are not expired and introduced them back one by one after patch testing. The way I do it is apply inside the elbow wait 12-24 hours, then behind the ear and wait 48 hours, then proceed with caution. Once a week for a few weeks and increase it one day at a time. Remeber, it can take around 12 weeks to see results but also in this time it can cause a reaction. All the best!
