You can use both! I know bakuchiol is touted as a retinol alternative, but it’s really not. There’s no research to back that up. It is a nice ingredient though and pairs really well with retinol. Many retinol products actually include it in their ingredients. I would start off very low and slow with a retinol and gradually increase the usage as your skin tolerates.

There are actually a few studies that show that bakuchiol has similar effects to retinol but with less irritation! I wouldn't say that there is absolutely no research but, yes, compared to retinol it's definitely a lot less researched!

I started slow with bakuchiol to get my skin use to it before jumping to stronger retinol

You can use both, but, honestly, I would prefer Niacinamide, acids, vit C and other antioxidants in that age 🙂

Bakuchiol is a plant based retinol.
It has similar benefits to retinol but has limited research compared to retinol. And has antioxidant benefits. Bauchiol is an alternative for sensitive skin. It's unclear whether it's safe to use during pregnancy. You can't use retinol while pregnant
