Review: Avene Mineral Sunscreen Multi-Defense Fluid SPF50+

I’m posting a review here as this reformulated version is not in the database here on Picky. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. This is a 100% mineral sunscreen featuring 12% zinc oxide and provides broad spectrum SPF 50+ protection. It is water resistant for up to 40 minutes and is tinted for “a natural finish for most skin tones” according to the brand. I apply sunscreen using the 3 finger method to ensure that I have full coverage and protection. Unfortunately the shade is way too warm for my light skin tone - it is super orange and looks way darker than my natural skin color. (I included a photo showing the difference between my cheek and around my ear - before completing application to illustrate). I suppose the shade might look more natural if lightly applied, but then you aren’t really getting the best possible protection from UVA/UVB rays. The texture is quite runny, which makes it easy to apply, but it feels quite heavy on the skin. It also settles into dry patchy areas so be sure to apply a moisturizer first if you have dry skin. This sunscreen has nice ingredients (Niacinamide, Bisabolol, Allantoin and Tocopherol) and is safe for sensitive skin. I like how it is fragrance, alcohol and mineral oil free, but the tint is definitely not a universal shade for light or dark skin tones. I think I would prefer to try the non-tinted version, as I’d rather have a white cast than look like a character in Charlie & the Chocolate Factory with this tinted version. Rating: ⭐️ out of 5 stars as I was unable to give it a 0 star rating on the app providing this sunscreen to test.

It does look orange. It's frustrating that we can't give zero stars on our reviews.

It looks more like foundation rather than tinted sunscreen. I've never seen one quite so pigmented.

My skin tone is pretty light but orange Oompa Loompa isn’t the look I’m going for

I ran into the same problem with a tinted SPF from a different brand, it's too bad that tinted SPF's often aren't available in multiple shades, unlike foundations or other face make up. I get that it's nearly impossible to create one universal shade suitable for all skincolors, but if they would just make more different shades, the problem is fixed! 😉 The ingredients sounds amazing, too bad you didn't like it. Excellent review though!
