What a great topic! 🌝💖 I’ll give MY opinion on what u said :)
- First, I agree that lately, since the SKIN1004 review deadline is soon, I only see Toner + Ampoule reviews 😅 But I myself posted them too so I’m not complaining, just saying what I noticed.
- For the honesty part, I personally trust a lot of my mutuals on Instagram and believe that they are 100% honest in their reviews. Rating a product 5⭐️ doesn’t necessarily means being dishonest. In addition for me, the review format matter, I’ll trust an in-depth review but won’t trust one with "1" sentence (« This product changed my skin, I love it »)
- Luck or IG account popularity? It depends, for picky giveaways, I heard that where you’re located matter. Some of the brands has a target countries, so they prioritize reviewers from those countries or they simply doesn’t ship to some countries.
For insta giveaway and review events, some brands choose randomly while others look into participants profiles.
- Why buying if I can get it for free? The main reason I think of, is that if you buy it you’re not obliged to review the product 😅😂 And regarding giveaway, when there’s s small number of winner, and you don’t get picked but you really wanna try the product the only solution would be to buy it 🤷♀️
(P.S: there’s a lot of persons that don’t really get product for "free" bcs they have to pay taxes/custom fees etc..)

I love the topic you mention & @iJAYI opinion so here's mine!
- Yes it's pretty annoying if I keep seeing the same reviews in PICKY discussion area but I don't feel like that on ig bcuz my likes and comments on ig can help my mutuals to grow their profiles more. And since everyone applied the same things, get the same poducts, you & I are also gonna post reviews about the same thing as well so it's like a cycle you know 😂 so for sure there are ppl who feels annoyed too with our post 😆
- My reviews are usually 4 & 5 stars, the lowest I ever give is 3. it doesn't mean I am being dishonest & so are others. My skin is easily sensitized so if it's not working for me then it's not but I will give extra point and nice words if I like the texture/smell/packagkng etc even if it's doesn't work me.
- Giveaways in Picky I think is base on luck/how active you are here/your location based too, I only win in picky mega's giveaways 😂 for IG giveaways it's actually 50/50 bcuz there are brands they really randomly choose while other half is choose by the popularity of your profile/how good is your content (yes they actually look through your profile 1 by 1)
- I also have the same thoughts as you, why buy when they giving out so much as giveaways BUT have you ever thought that you might not even win it from their giveaways? 😂 you apply but that doesn't mean you 100% will win. unless you're big influencer then they will give you for free for sure but we are not so yea. You can always buy the products that you want to try if not then slowly wait for the chance to win it.
cheers ♥

yea after trying a few giveaways I realise the percentage of winning is near zero since most of it is to comment more for more entries and yea having more followers on your insta works in your favour. I think it's the same as platform giveaways too such as stylekorean and picky

The important thing for the brand is that other people see their product everywhere, so it boosts their sales. 🙂
The review itself doesn't matter, in my opinion. That's why they tell you to leave an honest review. It's more important that users take a lot of pictures and share them. 😉

yea I agree with you and wyatt. I think it's the cheapest way for brands to get nice photos since that's what matters to the brand rather than the review cos after all visual is what catch ppl eyes

I no longer participate as every single giveaway product irritated my skin in one way or another. And my skin doesn't even react to products I normally buy myself. Yet according to reviews they're all 'lifechanging'...
When it comes to reviews, it's down to each individual person to be honest as other users are relying on true reflection of the product.
Unsurprisingly so, giveaway products are top selling on most sites due to the vast number of positive reviews. So it works out to be a very effective and affordable PR campaign for the brands.

depends, I noticed when people write an in-depth review, its seems more trustworthy or when they write how long theyve been using it.
I dont think these GA’s are chosen only by luck.. I think location and how active u r are. But I’ve seen people posting their GA as their first post on IG and win, but also people who were new users on this app and win.
I think its first based on location and then luck or how active u are, probably depends on the brands requirement to win.
