Retinol 24 Night Serum
Let's take a look at the Olay 24 Hour Retinol Night Serum π
This is the first retinol product I've tried and I've been using it for about 4 months.
Olay says that with regular use, this will give you hydrated, plump and younger looking skin. They state that it's formulated with a Retinol24 Complex with niacinamide to help renew skin and make it smooth and glowy.
So what's in it? π
Aside from the Retinol and Retinyl Propianate (a vitamin A derivative), it also has Pentapeptide 4 which incidecoder notes is one of the better-researched peptides. According to them clinical studies are promising and show that it can reduce fine lines, wrinkles and improve skin texture significantly.
π Texture and feel
This is a milky, somewhat thick serum that has a silky feel to it. It applies easily and absorbs almost a bit too quickly as I found the recommended pea-sized amount wasn't enough to cover my entire face.
I incorporated it slowly into my routine 1x a week to reduce the risks associated with retinol, and slowly working my way up to a couple of times a week and didn't have any adverse effects.
As far as results go, I do feel like I've seen some improvement, specifically on my smile lines which appear less deep. However I personally think the company's claim that you'll see results in 28 days is a bit bold.
I think this is a good beginner retinol as the formulation with quite a lot of silicone and emollients seem to help prevent redness and irritation. As the percentage of retinol is kept as a proprietary secret though, always make sure you patch test first.
π° 30 ml bought at Boots on sale for 799 THB/approx. 24 USD
π¦ My biggest gripe with this product is about the packaging. It comes in a heavy luxe-looking purple dropper bottle, which is a plus in terms of preventing the retinol from deteriorating. But the top button function that is meant to automatically dispense the necessary amount is a no for me. It's fiddly, doesn't actually give you the amount you need (at least not for me) and because of the thicker texture it leaves a lot of product stuck in the pipette.
It's also not the most affordable product particularly given the 30 ml you get.
