The gold part is just a bit of a gimmick, it does not face the eye area so it is just for show.

It was a good size for my eye area, many of these types of eye masks are huge and  are all over my cheeks as well as the eye area. I did like the way my eyes felt after using this product, refreshed and  slightly less puffy. It was nice and cool while it was on my eyes and stayed in place until I was ready to remove them.
