Facial SPF 30+ UVA/UVB Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen
SRP: US $24.99
Size: 59 mL/ 2 oz
Period After Opening: 4 months
Sunscreen Filters: Zinc Oxide (16%)
Protection: SPF 30+
Water Resistant: No
• The Mad Hippie Facial SPF is a milk type sunscreen. It has a thin texture, more watery and runnier than the usual paste-like consistency of most sunscreens. It has a white color that comes from the zinc oxide which is a white powder. The tube needs to be shaken well before use.
• This contains 16% zinc oxide with SPF 30+. Zinc oxide is a physical or inorganic sunscreen filter that is considered to be the broadest range sunscreen. It protects against UVB, UVA II, and UVA I. It’s stable, and non-irritating.
• The Facial SPF contains Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP), a stable and mild vitamin C derivative. SAP is an antioxidant, a collagen booster, skin brightener, and an anti-acne.
• Other notable ingredients included in the formula are vitamin E (antioxidant, photoprotective, emollient), avocado oil (antioxidant, emollient, rich in fatty acids especially oleic), carrot seed oil (antioxidant, rich in fatty acids), jasmine oil (soothing, moisturizing), red raspberry seed oil (antioxidant, soothing, moisturizing, rich in fatty acids), sodium hyaluronate (moisturizing, helps skin hold onto water), shea butter (soothing, moisturizing, rich in antioxidants), aloe vera (moisturizing, anti-inflammatory), and glycerin (moisturizing).
• This is alcohol-free.
• Most milk type sunscreens dry out my skin but the Mad Hippie Facial SPF does not. This is non-drying and non-irritating as well.
• The sunscreen comes in an opaque plastic tube. This and all Mad Hippie packaging can be recycled through Terracycle.
• This Facial SPF contains fragrant essential oils which may trigger allergic reactions in very sensitive people. Its scent is citrusy and too strong for my liking. I don’t avoid fragrance in skincare but the scent in this is just too much.
• 1/4 tsp is the recommended amount of sunscreen for the face. This amount leaves a horrible white cast on my light-medium skin tone. It’s hard to evenly distribute the product too. Whatever I do, it looks patchy, it even fades off patchy.
• This also makes my skin greasy. I didn’t want to believe it when it happened the first times. Physical sunscreens usually leaves my skin matte and will even be drying especially to the skin under my eyes. This Facial SPF is the exception but it’s not a good thing.
• Haven’t tried this under makeup but I’m expecting that this will not do well. It might change the color of foundation and make it slide and move around.
• This has a short shelf life of 4 months. I typically have more than four different bottles of sunscreen open at a time and need each of them to last at least 6 months from date of open.
