Dr. K Natto Cream
Have you tried Natto / chungkookjang?
Both are similar, both are basically fermented soybeans, both are super healthy, stringy and and a bit smelly, both are therefore a loved and also hated food. Natto is the Japanese and chungkookjang is the Korean variety.
They both are fermented with the help of bacillus subtilis and are full of proteins, antioxidants and polyglutamic acid.
This is where these fermented soybeans become interesting as a source of skincare ingredients: Polyglutamic acid is an excellent humectant and in a lot of skincare products.
I found out my dry to combo skin with a strong tendency of dehydration loves it…well, at least in form of of this cream.
My personal highlight ingredients:
glycerin, squalane, sunflower seed oil, bacillus/glutamic acid ferment, ceramide, gromwell root (Lithospermum) extract…
for hydration, moisture and cell protection.
Smell: reminds me of sugared lemons, fresh, but gone quite quickly (yep, not the typical smell of fermented beans!)
Texture: Thick gel cream, a little goes a long way, it’s on the occlusive side (glowy finish, a tad tacky) -in my opinion a great texture for an evening routine moisturizer, not so much in the mornings.
I like how my skin feels in the morning after applying it in the pm. There‘s definitely more hydration and my skin feels soft and nourished. It‘s a bit thick and on some nights, I prefer a more lightweight moisturizer, but I think dry skin can really benefit from this.
The only thing I noticed is that it can feel a bit tingly when applied over products with higher AHA/BHA concentrations, but that might simply be due to its occlusiveness that is neccessary to lock in water.
