Creme De La Mer
This thick, occlusive moisturizer has petrolatum and the La Mer proprietary blend of sea water and algae paired with soothing panthenol and a derivative of Vit. A.
It has some decent ingredients. It's hydrating. It comes in a good quality jar.
Cost: $470 CAD per 2oz
I hate this product. I hate it so much.
1. The SCENT. It is easily the most horrible smelling, cloying, strongest scent I've ever come across in skincare. I hate it. It smells like baby powder that's gone off and it practically strangles your senses. It doesn't go away either, it clings to you for HOURS. Based on this alone I'd never ever use it again if you paid me too. It's that bad.
2. It is so ridiculously thick you can only apply it after waiting for it to warm up in your fingers, and even then you still have to rub and pull at your skin way more than is good for it. It also leaves a greasiness that takes a long time to absorb. I tried using it as a sleeping mask, thinking I might eventually get past the smell and it could still do my dehydrated winter skin some good, but it made me break out horrendously and even after an hour of waiting it still stuck to my pillow.
3. The jar is deceptive. The double wall on the jar is THICK, especially on the bottom, so you are getting a LOT less cream than you expect per jar. I was unimpressed.
4. It separates extremely easily with temperature change, and since it's so incredibly thick it's nearly impossible to mix it back together once it does.
5. It is RIDICULOUSLY priced. For such a bougie brand I expected a heck of a lot more from this product. Although more expensive does not equal more effective when it comes to skincare, typically it does mean a really luxurious experience, whether that be wonderful fragrances or beautiful textures (think Tatcha's water cream!). This product offers nothing that a tin of Nivea mixed with an algae serum can't mimic (or do better when it comes to scent!). Thank goodness I didn't spend money on it, but it is certainly not close to being worth the price point.
I rate this cream "for feet only". If it didn't smell so bad I might consider using it on the rest of my body, but I just can't make myself do it after days of trying it on my face and cringing. I'm still a little curious about the toner and serum, but if it has the same scent I won't even consider touching it with a 10ft pole.
