I was looking for brightening products and chanced upon Kat Burki Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing Balm!
Hailing from USA, Kat Burki is a pioneering beauty brand, uniquely powered by cutting edge nutritional science to deliver cold processed, nutrient dense formulations that are recognized as much for what they do contain as for what they don’t.
Every formula is free from chemicals, parabens, synthetic fragrances, gluten and are cruelty free. There are no unnecessary fillers such as water, silicone, and alcohol, utilizing instead their trademarked signature blend, KB5 Complex™. The Kat Burki Collection delivers effective, instant-impact therapies for youthful, healthy looking skin.
Packaging, Scent and Texture:
Kat Burki Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing Balm comes in an elegant frosted-like glass jar with a minimalistic feel. A muslin cloth is folded nicely and slotted in a clear plastic bag, enclosed in the box, together with the cleanser.
It has a citrus-y floral scent that smells lovely. The texture is very different from those balms I have used before as its in chunky mushy bits that feels slightly cooling on skin.
The chunky mushy bits break down as you massage it on skin and you can chose to use it with your hands or the muslin cloth provided. On the box packaging, it was stated that I can use both methods, however, on the website, it only states the muslin cloth.
How to use ( from website ) : For AM/PM use. Apply a dime size amount of product onto damp Kat Burki muslin cloth. Massage onto face, neck and décolleté area using circular motions. Remove product and residue using warm water or a clean damp muslin cloth (provided).
Performance and Ingredients:
When I first started using Kat Burki Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing Balm, it was naturally that I used my hands since I am used to using the cleansing balm without any tools. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with how it feels on my skin!
It feels like a rich greasy balm as I massaged it on skin and after I cleanse the balm off, it left a greasy film behind and I was so worried that I may have some breakouts from it but fortunately, I survived the week without developing any zits.
What made an astonishing difference was when I decided to use the muslin cloth that was provided together with the cleanser. Following the instructions, I wet the cloth and apply a dime size amount on it and just cleanse my skin. It feels so good, as though I am exfoliating my skin and my skin was left feeling refreshed, clean and clear. It is also soft and smooth.
Muslin cloths are woven cotton fabric with a feel between a thick dryer sheet and a traditional wash cloth, that provide gentle exfoliation and can bring out the best from your favorite cleansing balm. However, anything that comes into contact with the skin needs to be washed/replaced regularly as dirt and skin cells can build up on your cloth.
Aside from providing a gentler, more sanitary cleansing alternative to washcloths and facial brush heads, muslin cloths are also great at loosening stuck-on face masks. They are also great for dipping in warm water, wringing out and placing over your face for a pore-opening steam session.
Because of the great cleansing experience, I actually look forward to cleansing my face every morning! No greasy sensation after-feel anymore! The 60ml size lasted me for about 1.5 months usage with once a day usage.
Unfortunately, I still didn't see the glow which I was expecting from a Vitamin C product, then again, I probably can't expect much miracles from a product that is only on my face for 3 minutes.
In terms of ingredients, Kat Burki has stated the following :
" In lieu of water, at the base of every Kat Burki formula is our trademarked proprietary blend, comprised of Gotu Kola, Arnica, Calendula, Lavender and Chamomile. These five herbs are individually cold processed into essences. They are then combined to create the KB5 bioprocessed elixir (KB5™ Complex) that replaces conventional water in our formulas. The KB5™ Complex utilizes ingredients known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits. "
The key ingredients are:
-Aloe : Suited for dry, damaged, broken, sensitive and irritated skin. It offers anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, humectant and soothing, anti-itch qualities for skin.
-Coconut Oil : Beneficial for dry skin. Its emollient properties amp up skin's ability to prevent moisture loss and provide nourishing hydration that softens rough, dry skin.
-Stay C : Their stable form of Vitamin C. Water soluable form of C that is activated only when absorbed. Powerful antioxidant that brightens, tightens, and helps skin more or less glow!
-Rosehip Seed Oil : Dense in Vitamin C which aids in brightening skin. Helps reduce the appearance of hyper pigmentation. Also reduces free radical damage.
My Conclusion:
To conclude, Kat Burki Vitamin C Nourishing Cleansing Balm works well as a cleanser, giving rise to clean, clear, softer and smoother skin. I really enjoyed using it with the muslin cloth.
For the price, I expect to see a brightening glow, but other than that my dry skin really enjoyed this Cleansing balm!!!
