Houttuynia Cordata Calming Essence
Scent:
This essence smells slightly of a medicinal herb. The scent isn't bad or overpowering in my opinion, and it dissappears immediately upon application. Unfortunate for sensitive skin people, this essence does contain a few essential oils (orange, lavender and basil) which surprised me, because I really can't notice any other smell than the herby one. So the essential oils are probably in a really low quantity in the product, and didn't irritate my skin this time.
Texture:
The texture is very light and watery. The essence looks almost clear. Because of the light texture, this product absorbs really quickly into my skin. I can layer it a couple of times with ease.
Experience:
I would say this product felt really nice on my skin, it is a very gentle product that never irritated my sensitive skin. It does provide hydration, but I still need to layer a toner on top to get sufficient hydration for my skin.
Now I was kinda hoping for an instant soothing and calming effect since my skin is sometimes very irritated and stinging, but unfortunately this product didn't provide that kind of help. What I think this product did instead, was a more long-term kind of soothing and protection. I didn't get instant results, but with consistent use I felt like this kept my inflammation "in check". I felt like I had less of those days when my skin feels irritated, when I started using this product. So generally my skin barrier has been in better health when I incorporated this product into my routine.
Overall I think this is a pretty nice and high quality product, but the soothing effects aren't instant. It's more like a protective and preventative kind of a product.
The essential oils can be irritating to sensitive skin.
