Can Niacinamide cause dryness?

Is it true that putting on multiple products with Niacinamide can further dry out my dry skin? I have dry sensitive skin, with some visible pores on my T-zone. I’ve notived great difference in my pore size ever since I started layering Niacinamide products. But is it true that dry skin ppl like me should use Niacinamide with caution?

While it is true that niacinamide can help to regulate the sebum production on our skin, there are lots of niacinamide product formulated with hydrating and moisturizing ingredients in it. For example ingredient like glycerin that can moisturize your skin well. So i don't think that niacinamide product can cause the dryness. But the ordinary niacinamide is the exception. Because this product contains zinc that can decrease the sebum production of your skin and can make your skin become drier.

As someone with dry skin, yep, my experience with 10% of niacinamide hasn’t been the best and it definitely noticeably dehydrated my skin. Since everyone’s skin is different, I’m glad yours work well with niacinamide. However, I’d just like to point out that my reaction was actually a delayed one, meaning I was already using a high percentage for around a month before I started have issues with dryness and my skin barrier. Hopefully that isnt the case for you but I would recommend using only two of the products together and alternating them:)

Its definitely true especially TO brand. The concentration is high and layering with other products that have niacinamide too greatly enhance the dryness. I recommend to only use one for a few weeks usage

Niacinamide controls oil production that's why its highly recommend for oily skin. It still has good effects for combination or dry skin but must be used in moderation and pair if with a good moisturizer.

It can cause irritation if you use it in high amounts and in multiple products and it’s the irritation that can cause dryness. But generally it’s supposed to be hydrating and help with your moisture barrier. So if it’s drying you out, you will want to back off on the percentage. It just depends on your skin. You really only need something with 5% or maybe lower. Products with 10% may be a bit much if you have dry or sensitive skin. If you want something more gentle you can try it in a wash off product. Like this one, because the skin contact time will be shorter.
