there could be many different reasons for this. it could be because it's your first time using a chemical exfoliant, or maybe you have open sores or fresh pimples? it could also be that it's just to harsh for your skin or it's too high a concentration and your skin hasn't built up a tolerance yet, or your skin barrier may be comprised. xxx

Are you using the 2% liquid? That is one their most penetrative liquid hence it can sting. Depending on where you are in the world, Paula Choice may offer a refund or exchange but you have to contact them. The Clear Regular 2% is a lighter less penetrative version. Paula Choice also have a 1% BHA Lotion that probably fits your dry skin
Actually their 2% comes in liquid, gel and lotion. The lotion being best for dryer and sensitive skin becomes it contains more buffer but stinging is normal when you first use exfolliants but it should go away as you use it.

I don't have a lot to go on, but I would say the product is too strong for your skin type or your skin barrier is damaged.
Are you using other actives at the same time?

I used The differin adapalene acne gel Wednesday night. Idk if that's why. I also noticed the stinging when I tried exfoilating twice a week

Is that the first time you used a chemical exfoliant?
What cleanser and/or other products did you apply beforehand?
