Kombucha Tea Essence irritation?

so I'm a milky skincare addict(thanks, dry skin) and finally got the famous Kombucha Essence. I expected it to be similar to the Cream Skin Refiner, but the feel on the skin is very different. after some digging, I found that it uses more esters and is higher in Triethylhexanoin rather than Glycerin, like the Laneige, so it makes the skin velvety. right after applying I felt it make my face slightly itchy and "stuffy" if that makes sense. I don't know whether it is due to this, or the high 78% concentration of Kombucha Tea + Green Tea, but I've gotten a pretty big cystic spot growing on my lower cheek area. I literally NEVER get those, and my skin has been known to not get along with certain natural ingredients like Green Tea before. has any of you picky ppl had this problem before? is this a "dotox" period from the tea complex? kinda sad because I know it's a quality product that everyone seems to love, but maybe it's just not for me. I'm thinking of discontinuing for the time being and giving it another go once the breakout heals just to make sure it's really the culprit, but I introduce only one new product at a time, so I have a bad feeling about this 😢 EDIT: it's definitely the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate. now that I think back on it, I had a similar reaction to an SK-II essence a very long time ago, and I think the Missha one as well. I should've paid better attention to the ingredients in this product, but it's been so long since I had a bad reaction to skincare. if you're sensitive, please be careful with this ingredient and any yeast extracts as well as probiotics! and thank you to the community for finally helping me figure this out! you guys gave me comfort and made me realize I wasn't just imagining things 💕

You are not the only one 😭 I literally have the entire post on my Instagram where I’m being sad that Kombucha Gel Cream (from the same brand) made my skin breakout! I was so disappointed because I was so excited to buy it and use it. The first two times I used it I just got slight irritation, but didn’t pay much attention to it because my skin is very sensitive. But on the third day I noticed some acne developing on my cheeks and forehead. I became concerned because I hadn’t had acne on my forehead (around temple area) for a very long time! Yet, I didn’t want to admit that it was the gel’s fault and continued using it (for two more weeks) until it was painful to touch my face! Then I stopped :((( I have seen some great reviews about both, essence and cream, but I just can’t bring myself to give it a second chance.

honestly, thank you sm for helping me figure it out once and for all! I think we tend to brush off this type of reaction to products, thinking it's probably something else that's causing it. especially when we're young. I DM'd you on insta about what happened 💕 this ingredient was even higher on the list in your cream 💔

I thought you were going to mention Fresh's line for a moment😅. I tried a mini once and it was so heavily fragranced I had to give it away. It triggered migraines and some irritation. I love other products of their but that line is a no. I wonder if there are some of the same problematic ingredients as you note in your post?

the ingredients in this are totally in the clear. I don't buy anything with fragrance, because my sensitive skin could never lol I have a hunch that it's actually the high concentration of fermented tea they use in this, as I've had similar reactions to fermented ingredients before 😔

I’m sorry that happened to you. Could be a detox period or the kombucha is too strong for your skin.

Well I have this in my stash but i don't react to fermented products so hopefully I'm okay but now I'll pay extra attention.
