Salicylic acid cleanser + AHA essence

Hi picky users! I want to ask a question. Can I add Cosrx Salicylic Acid cleanser and Isntree 8% AHA Essence together in one routine? I know it's gonna make my skin tight or dry (maybe) but I still wanna hear your opinion about it ๐Ÿ˜

Hi ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ I will give you the answer that no one ever wants to hear but itโ€™s nonetheless true: it all depends on your skin. I know, very helpful. But the truth is, some people donโ€™t need a lot of exfoliation and can only handle so much. On the other hand, if you have resilient skin or a lot of acne, it could be beneficial to have a little bit of more acids. But itโ€™s pretty much a trial and error thing. I would first try both of those products separately to know how your skin reacts. Now, you can use salicylic cleanser daily, but you donโ€™t have to. But even if you do, the AHA product should be used like 2-3x a week. If you decide to try them together (even if your skin reacts well to them separately, there is a chance of dryness, irritation or overexfoliation in case of combined use, so just observe your skin and stop usingg them if needed), then make sure you are only using the AHA from isntree a few times a week ๐Ÿฅฐ Good luck and may the skincare be ever in your favor ๐Ÿ’–

Thank you for your long explaination! ๐Ÿ˜ I'm not planning to use the cleanser everyday since I knew it's gonna make my skin extremely dry. I already use the essence for 2 months so I thought maybe it would be fine if I use them together in one routine to see if my skin can tolerate well or vice versa. I think I'm gonna separate them first and consider to add them in one routine if my skin can handle them in the future ๐Ÿ˜ I really thought adding them together = get better results on our skin ๐Ÿ˜‚

I agree with annaya! If your skin can handle it, then by all means, take your shot! Just do observe your skin and be sure to first check the products on its own before going in with them both at the same time. Supply plenty of hydration to your skin after the essence to prevent your skin from drying out too much. You might also prefer to go in with the cleanser, then a hydrating toner and then your essence on top of that.

Thank you for that! I always prepare hydrating toner whenever I applied active ingredients even though the percentage is low to make sure my skin barrier protected ๐Ÿ˜ Maybe I should not be rushing to put them together in one routine ๐Ÿ˜‚

Salicylic acid in a cleanser form doesn't do much like the exfoliants. So if u don't have irritation problem, or ur skin is quite resilient u can use both. In my opinion, the cleanser will lower the pH of ur skin, & so when u use the AHA after, it will penetrate better. But that also means that the tingling can be stronger, or even irritate ur skin. Try once, if the irritation is too much then rinse off & use a pH balancing toner in between. ๐Ÿ™‚

There are plenty of studies showing that Salicylic acid in a cleanser form is effective as it only needs a very short time to penetrate the skin. Many derm recommend salicylic acid cleansers to treat acne that isnโ€™t severe as it is enough to battle gentle breakouts and milder forms of acne for a lot of people. The pH adjusters in the AHA product should be stronng enough to make the product work no matter what you apply it after, whether itโ€™s battery acid with ph of 0 or drain cleaner with ph of 14 (that is obviously an exaggeration ๐Ÿ˜… please donโ€™t put either of those things anywhere near your skin unless you want to see how your muscles look like ๐Ÿ™ˆ) ๐Ÿฅฐ This is a screenshot of paragraphs from Paulaโ€™s Choice article on the subject ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

Personally i wouldn't use it cz here aha is 8% which is pretty good amount i guess. And you're right it will make my skin drier so better to use them in separate routine.

BHA in a cleanser doesn't do much so I think it's fine to apply AHA after that.
